Anything that kills the Internet Explorer hegemony is a good thing, and I think the default “window” into the Internet releasing a browser will go a long way toward that. The fact that it’s WebKit is a double good thing. And the fact that its probably a bit easier to use than Firefox is even more so.
As a guy who’s entire day and life and business life is spent making experiences for people to enjoy, millions of them, I want IE6 and even 7 OUT OF MY FUCKING LIFE.
More IE6 than anything.

Indeed it’s good that Chrome uses Webkit and that the user experience will improve.

You can contribute as I do to diminish IE market share while keeping Firefox market share by pushing IE users to switch to Firefox.
I’m also glad it’s WebKit, and I can’t wait for the days when I can finally throw out those IE6 statistics. IE7 is less problematic, whereas IE6 just destroys everything. Unfortunately, I still see a good 5-20% of visitors coming from IE6, depending on the project.

As nice as it is, and as quickly as people have taken to it, I think the only thing that it will really accomplish is to cannibalize Firefox market share. We know the usage statistics on IE6, I doubt people who are using a browser which came default in XP and was released in 2001 are magically going to jump to chrome. I suspect that Chrome vs. Firefox we become a popular point of debate among nerds, but I just cant imagine people making the IE6->Chrome jump. Luckily it is standards compliant so it shouldn’t require changes to existing sites.
