I know Daring Fireball is sponsored by Drobo this week, but here’s my caveat: we have a Drobo, and had a drive fail twice already, and Drobo wont’ send us new ones. CDW sells Drobo’s as a bundle, so they’ll only send an entire new unit out, not a new drive. Beware.

Why not just buy a new SATA drive? That’s all they are, isn’t it? Out of curiosity, what brand of drive do the Drobo bundles ship with? I’m weighing the costs of getting an empty one and filling it with drives vs getting one already filled.

I work for Data Robotics. Sorry to hear about your problem. The drives are from Western Digital. I will get you and post contact information to exchange the drives.

Thank you for caontacting Drobo Tech Support.

You will have to contact the company from where you purchased the
drive.
Ethan,
Here is how to contact Western Digital for a warranty replacement.
Go to the warranty section of Western Digital’s website:
http://support.wdc.com/warranty/index.asp
Select End-users and then te product replacement button. It will walk you through on how to fill out a request for drive replacement on-line.
There is a section where you can do an advance replacement if you give them a credit card #, otherwise, the replacement will ship within 1-2 days of receiving the defective drive.
