BBC NEWS | Technology | Facebook ‘costs businesses dear’

My opinion: if Facebook cost your business “dear,” then you shouldn’t really be in business. If you can’t figure out how to leverage any social network for your own business, and the tendencies of your employees to enjoy them, then time to rethink your strategies. I know we’re a unique case, but you HAVE to have Facebook here.

The traditional/conservative point of view is that when you’re at work you slave away at Excel, Word, etc and never check your personal email, blog, etc.

I’m 33 and possibly a minority in my age range but I know a lot of people age 21-25 take it as a given that they are allowed to use the internet for whatever they want as long as it doesn’t interfere with their responsibilities.

And it is a big asset because the more connected your employees are (and hence your company) the more opportunities you’ll be able to capture.
