Facebook as the new Yahoo!?

Facebook Developers | Facebook Exporter for iPhoto: Ok, now something is going on with this. Is Facebook the Apple to the Microsoft of Yahoo? Meaning: singular focus with ancillary improvements which serve 100% to serve the singular focus? It seems so deliberate and so smart, you have to wonder… what’s next?

Its well known that Facebook turned down a billion dollar offer from Yahoo, and it seems now that the reason is becoming clear: with smaller staff, more agile technology and a clearer sense of purpose, might Facebook be trying to be Yahoo, rather than be owned by Yahoo?

Consider this: Facebook is the second largest social networking site, and I’d wager the one with the most intrinsic link to the lives of its participants. Also consider that technologically, they have good scalability, good technology and a clear sense of purpose both aesthetically and functionally. Its unified, and its clean. Like an Apple product. Not a coincidence that there are former Apple employees at Facebook.

With this, the API, and special purpose applications like the March Madness one, I wonder if the liquidation event could be IPO rather than acquisition. It certainly seems like a sustainable trajectory.
