What is the value add of augmenting a simple function (LINK) with extraneous contextual information that would be better served, UI wise, in a dedicated area on the page. Status bars exist for a reason people. They are rather nice. As are status AREA’s within a given application. I thought UI design should have prohibited gratuitous uses of hover-over layers like overgrown, cancerous tool-tips.
