Some Sites Off Limits, Even in a Newsroom - New York Times

Some Sites Off Limits, Even in a Newsroom - New York Times: how fucking stupid is this? We depend on the newspapers to be the paragon of truth in a media rich world (say that without laughing), and depend on the papers themselves to provide journalists with the ability to get the information they need. Instead, newspapers bow to the fear of the great Interweb and put censorship up in order to provide a “safe” work environment for their employees. The imposition of the Internet down to a singular point of interference in a newsroom (as indicated by filtering), is completely counter to the n-dimensional construct it is. Is it any wonder why Internet journalism provides a much richer, chaotic and information-laden (by virtue of the noise) experience? Fear of the network and the n-dimensional is not justified.
