Blackberry-killer plans leaked
: This is a totally killer concept. I was thinking about this recently, that while I love my Blackberry, it truly is a device for professionals. However, the concept of persistent identity and e-mail should extend farther than it currently does (the Sidekick being the only truly consumer device in this space). Now, imagine if an ISP sold a Blackberry that was OEM’ed (not the 8700, but something more Sidekick-ish), that was perfectly integrated with e-mail from a variety of providers, integrated with AIM/GTalk, etc, and with the ergonomics of the 8700C. Helio is trying to target what I call the Survey Generation with a phone that integrates with MySpace, but its still a phone first. My 8700 is an awesome phone and more awesome e-mail device. It’d be a killer business for an ISP like Speakeasy to offer easy setup/use of a device similar to it integrated completely with the rest of a consumers digital life.

I agree. A simple IM and email (only) device would rock. I used a color Sidekick for as year as my personal email and IM device, but did NOT use it as a phone.
When AT&T launched oGio (sp?) I thought the idea was good but the device was weak (poor screen and keyboard).
The SideKick III [next month?] should be interesting. But there is a huge market opportunity for a data only mobile device with a reasonable monthly plan for all you can eat data.
I am very much in the market!
