I can finally take the wraps off a new project of mine.
The “Regina World” concept began long ago. Actually it predates my coming to WBR as I was a beta-tester for Linden Labs a few years ago at the request of Howard Rheingold. Since then, I’ve followed its development closely, as it rose above There.com and Sims Online to become the defacto metaverse.
When I got to WBR, I wanted to do a project in world, and Regina Spektor is the first that presented itself. She seemed logical, as she is a visceral and visual artist, with a defined aesthetic.
Regina’s loft was developed with Millions of Us, Inc.
We launch the world next week…..

Weird — I just found out about Regina Spektor last week, and suddenly I see her name pop up everywhere. But she’s been around for, what, five years?
Bringing Real Business to Second Life…
I’ve been checking out Second Life for a week or so, but I still don’t quite get it. But I need to stick with it, because everytime I shake my head and vow not to return, I read how people……
You realize, of course, that the first thing people are going to do is climb the stairs and have sex in the bed.
Which is why I had them add a “sleep” action to that bed. It’s AWESOME!!!!111!!!
Ah, yes. “Sleep.” I’ll bet people will be sleeping their little, virtual brains out. If the population of the Internet can managed to have sex through a text-only chat, don’t think that the lack of a verb is going to stop them.
Y’know, I’ve always imagined this is how the parties I don’t get invited to look. Including the overhead, ah, sleep.
Well Greg, a free account and I’ll make sure you’re invited to groove to the cool anti-folk sounds of ms. regina spektor.
explaining second life to non-techies was entertaining.
non-techie: “So uh, you log in, and walk around and talk?”
me: “Yup!”
non-techie: “And people do this?”
me: “Yeah! 5000 are on right now! Look, I can fly!!!!”
non-techie: “Did you have many friends as a child?”
That’s pretty much every conversation I’ve ever had in my life.
Assuming it concluded with, “I will get a restraining order unless you leave me alone right now.”
apparel…
I am all for it. I wonder how many folks actually use these. I built a small store that grew into over 100 thousands items. Its crazy how fast it grows!. Anyway. I agree!…

Hi, I want traffic, so I'm going to write about a subject I know jack-shit about in order to get said traffic. Call me Mashable. We plan parties! We don't do research however. Just blanket judgements about subjects we know next to nothing about.

No Jeff, you should be even more worried that they run their "blog" on Cold Fusion. If that's not a case-in-point, I don't know what is.

Hats off to Jennifer Bird at ATO/TBD and the excellent band o' Radiohead for pushing music videos further into irrelevance, and Music Software as the new means of getting content out.
