TechCrunch » Blog Archive » AOL to Release YouTube Clone: I love it when a company is late for the party and then decides to throw millions at a concept to make up for it, ending up with an over-engineered, hype ridden “me too!” clone of what should be a home-grown, ground-up product. Ultimately of course, the home-grown product can’t keep up with the muscle behind the marketing from mega-company X and thus, gets written to an early demise with glorification from all sides on how they were “first.” They rest easy with their buyouts and Wikipedia pages. See: Netscape, Napster, et al.
