The Week Ahead
When the week starts, its hard not to sit and think about it ending. Human nature I guess. Right now we’re two people down, so our workloads as a department are much higher. However I also think that things are coming together nicer in terms of the over-all aim of what we are aspiring to do. Its a nice moment as someone that lives and breaths technology when all the moving parts just click together. Servers, software, people and ideas meshing.
Anyway, here’s a few things from where I sit, at a record company (music company as it were):
- Dries mentioned it and so it is. MissionMetallica.com is a huge ass Drupal site which uses both Flash and HTML as interfaces. Its super complex, relying on access codes, multiple levels of sales, tons of content daily and more. Its a template for an idea that extends out of what I talked about at Mesh and even Gnomedex: music is experience, music is about living and breathing what you are passionate about. Music is not about just a shiny disc.
- We are launching a few more Drupal fanclubs in the next week. Details when they are live.
- We have started a project to abstract common API’s we need to interface with under a common and simplified interface using the Drupal services module. This way we can interface through need rather than technology, and swap technology without changing any interfaces. Good OOP practice, sadly not practiced often.
- We’re working on a asynchronous queing system using multi-threaded Python. If I can get the code up to snuff, I might open source it. Right now its too proprietary.
- Its a pretty exciting time to be doing what we do. The music is great. The technology is great. The intersection of the two is fantastic.
